Welcome to my world. I am a middle-aged male locked in the good fight. I try to balance work with being a good father and husband and even have a little fun once in a while. Expect a free-form collection of musings, observations and the occassional rant.

A week ago a very good customer of mine left my workplace in the usual manner. He got pissed off and left in a huff because he didn't get his way when he submitted his latest unreasonable request. We jokingly told him to "get lost", "go to hell", the usual. If I knew that I would never see him again I would have probably have thought of something nicer. He hit a bridge abuttment on his Harley without a helmet at speeds in excess of 70mph. He was pronounced dead on the scene. So I wrote this in his memory.

If we only knew...

Late last night we lost a dear friend

On a darkened highway he met an untimely end

When we awoke the following morn

we did not expect our hearts to be torn

The news hit us early and spread at a wildfire's rate

A terrible example of the randomness of fate

Shocked and unsettled we sat in our places

Unable to mask the grief on our faces

Our workplace will never be the same

Without the man whose disposition was his claim to fame

Controversial and difficult yet quick with a smile

If you gave him an inch he would ask for a mile

The reasons to mess with him formed an impressive list

But when he wasn't around he was certainly missed

We now know how wwe felt about him,it is suddenly clear

A customer, a comrade whose friendship we held dear

We have a lifetime to reflect on what he meant to us all

He had just moments after he hit that stone wall

To look back on his life and sort the good and the bad

and think about his friends and how many he had

May bygones be bygones, he was very forgiving

He took great pleasure in the simple act of living

There are no second chances at last words, one's all you get

I could have done better, that much I will bet

If you can see us as we celebrate you

Know that it would have been different...if we only knew
